Implementation in the United Kingdom

The CO2  Performance Ladder has expanded to the UK in partnership with Action Sustainability, an award-winning consultancy specialising in sustainable procurement. They are leading the pilot in collaboration with key government bodies like Transport for London (TfL). With a focus on reducing supply chain emissions, this initiative aims to help UK organisations meet net-zero carbon goals by using the Ladder as a strategic tool in public tenders.

As sustainability gains importance, tools like the Ladder play a vital role in driving change. Together, SKAO and Action Sustainability aim to accelerate decarbonisation through smart, climate-conscious procurement.

The vast majority of most organisations’ carbon impacts lie in the supply chain. If any organisation is serious about reaching Net Zero Carbon, they need a robust plan to reduce their supply chain scope 3 emissions. This is where sustainable procurement and the CO2 Performance Ladder come in.

On 14 January 2025, the new version of the CO2 Performance Ladder was published: handbook 4.0.* With a transition scheme, we want to make the transition from version 3.1 to version 4.0 as smooth as possible.
